The city of Des Moines is looking for a new towing company after a sting centered on theft complaints.  The capital city cops had a long and growing list of complaints that cars taken to the city lot weren’t locked up securely enough.

Police say they rigged a small car with surveillance equipment and put it in the impound lot.  The resulting video led to misdemeanor citations against three people for tampering with vehicles or removing things from the cars.

Police wouldn’t say just what the car-cam caught but the city’s tearing up its contract with American Towing. They’ll find another company to haul away and stash cars found abandoned, illegally parked, wrecked or left when the driver’s arrested.
