The Hy-Vee World Cup triathlon later this month in Des Moines will be for more than just the highly trained adults. A kids triathlon will be held on June 16th and is offered for those age five to 12.

Spokesperson Beth Damm says it’s a great opportunity to attract some high-energy and enthusiastic participants. She says it helps the kids build self confidence and may inspire them toward some lifetime healthy habits.

She says kids these days need to be encouraged to stay fit and these type of events can show that fitness can be fun. While triathlons are known to be grueling events Damm says the ones designed for kids don’t require training.

Damm says it’s more about fun and getting them used to doing three sports in one event, and the distances are shorter and safety is stressed.

Damm says you can sign your child up for the event at: www.hyveetriathalon.com The event will be held at Gray’s Lake in Des Moines.
