Sam Hornish, Junior The 2006 Indianapolis 500 winner. Sam Hornish Junior, expects the racing to be close when the IndyCar Series makes its first appearance at the Iowa Speedway later this month for the Iowa Corn Indy 250.

Hornish has not been on the track in an Indy Car but was able to take a few laps in a NASCAR Busch Series car. He says it will be a great track that’s similar to the track in Texas with the racing two wide.

Hornish is racing at the Texas Motor Speedway this weekend and while the Iowa Speedway may not have the straightaway speed as some larger tracks the racing may actually be better.

Hornish says some of the slower speed tracks are the most fun to race at because it brings the driver back into the equation. Hornish says it is crucial to learn as much about a track as possible, including how to handle pit lane which can save valuable seconds. He says asphalt has different grits to it that give it different characteristics at each track.

The Iowa Corn Indy 250 is June 24th.
