The first appearance at Chicago’s Soldier Field is proving to be popular with Hawkeye fans. Iowa opens the season at the home of the Chicago Bears on September first with a matchup against Northern Illinois.

U-I ticket manager David Sandstrum says more than 23,000 tickets have been sold through his office. Sandstrum says a lot of people are making a weekend of it and trying to get tickets to the Cubs game too. Sandstrum says others will see the sights and shop while in Chicago.

Sandstrum says they are handling ticket sales in the same manner they would a bowl game, season ticket holders have until June 15th to order. Others can order tickets, but can’t get the lower priced tickets which are almost sold out.

Sandstrum says the two schools split the stadium in half for ticket sales. It is Northern Illinois’ home game, but Iowa has about 28,000 tickets.
