Three-hour stand-off with Sioux City police ends peacefully

June 12, 2007 By admin

A stand-off involving Sioux City police and a man with a gun ended without bloodshed last night.

Authorities were called to a home where a distraught man was reported to have a gun. The episode lasted three hours and drew a host of onlookers. Police did their best to keep the crowd out of the line of fire, although the man did not threaten to harm anyone — other than himself.

The city’s SWAT team contained the situation while other officers negotiated with the man. In the end, the man gave up and was taken into custody then transferred to a hospital for evaluation.

The man and his wife had recently moved into the city and were not well-known by neighbors.
