Trigger man dies in murder-suicide attempt in SE IA

June 13, 2007 By admin

A southeast Iowa woman and another man survived what authorities believe was a murder-suicide attempt on Wednesday, but the trigger man did kill himself.

According to a statement from the Lee County Sheriff’s office, 35-year-old Lori Prado of Fort Madison called 911 just before five a.m. Wednesday to report that she had been shot. When deputies arrived at her home, they found three people in the house, all of whom had been shot.

The woman’s estranged husband, 48-year-old Bartholomew Prado, was dead. Authorites say it appears he shot the other two, then turned the gun on himself.

Lori Prado and 24-year-old Justin Britton were both airlifted to hospitals.
