Waterloo Country Club damaged by fire

June 18, 2007 By admin

The Sunnyside golf course in Waterloo is expected to be open as usual today despite an early morning fire that damaged the Country Club.

An employee showing up for work discovered the fire around 5 a.m. today. Smoke had filled the building, but crews say the fire was extinguished before they arrived.

The fire set off a sprinkler system on the country club’s main floor. Officials say the building’s lower level sustained fire damage. There’s water and smoke damage throughout the rest of the structure.

While the fire will close the country club for an undetermined length of time, Sunnyside officials are planning to open the golf course as usual today.
