Eagle Grove man faces charges after chase

June 26, 2007 By admin

A 43-year-old Eagle Grove man is facing charges after a high speed chase through Fort Dodge Monday afternoon. Gene Leonard Smith was arrested by authorities following a chase. Smith did not stop but led Fort Dodge Police, Webster County Sheriff’s Deputies and Iowa State Patrol troopers on a chase throughout the entire Fort Dodge community at speeds of over 80 miles per hour.

Smith was finally stopped on Webster County Road D-18 just east of Fort Dodge. No injuries were reported in the chase. In addition to facing multiple traffic violations, Smith is facing a pending charge in Wright County for multiple offenses and could be sent to prison for 45 years if convicted. Last February he was charged with delivery of methamphetamine to a minor, using a minor in drug trafficking and failure to affix a drug tax stamp.
