Southwest Iowa man sentenced to 10 years after fatal crash

June 27, 2007 By admin

A southwest Iowa man was sentenced this week to prison in connection with a fiery crash last year in Montgomery County that killed a woman. Forty-one-year old Matthew Wayne Westover of Red Oak was sentenced Monday to 10-years in prison for vehicular homicide.

Westover had earlier been found guilty of recklessly driving a pick-up that crashed west of Stanton on May 8th, 2006. A Red Oak woman — 41-year-old Theresa Jane Larson –died in the wreck. Just before the accident, lost control of his pickup as he crossed a bridge.

The pickup entered a ditch, hit a large tree head-on and immediately burst into flames. Westover and another passenger were ejected from the vehicle. Larson’s body was found inside the cab of the burned out hulk after the fire was extinguished. Authorities say she likely died on impact.
