A life jacket lived up to its name Wednesday when a Tama County woman was knocked unconscious while floating in an inner tube down a river along the Butler-Floyd County line. Kevin Baskins, a spokesman for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, says the woman was being towed behind a boat on the Shell Rock River near Greene.

Baskins says, "She let go of the rope and flew off the tube. There was a logjam close to where they were tubing. She evidently hit that and was face-down in the water but the people in the boat were able to get to her quickly and get her upright again. She was wearing a life jacket which probably saved her life."

The woman’s identified as 19-year-old Amber Folken of Traer. She was taken to the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City, but there’s no report on her condition. The incident was still being investigated by the DNR but Baskins says no charges are expected to be filed.
