Conference co-winners will battle for 4A state berth

July 18, 2007 By admin

They shared a conference title but they cannot share a trip to the state tournament. Second ranked Davenport Central hosts number-four Bettendorf in a class 4A sub-state final with the winner advancing to the state tournament. It is the second straight rated foe for Bettendorf which beat number eight Burlington in the semifinal round.

Bettendorf coach Jay Fitzgerald says everyone in the conference and the substate had some good pitchers, so it means a lot to get to this point. Fitzgerald says it comes down to one game and "It’s gonna be a war." The teams shared the Mississippi Athletic Conference tittle and split a regular season doubleheader.

Fitzgerald says it will come down to pitching, and he’ll start Tyler Brevard who pitched a no-hitter the last time they faced each other.
