Bar blaze in Le Mars bumps apartment dwellers

July 21, 2007 By admin

A bar was ablaze in downtown Le Mars over the weekend.

Flames were shooting out of the apartments above the Hi-Lite Lounge when fire fighters arrived on the scene at 1:30 Saturday morning.

Le Mars Fire Chief Wayne Schipper says they had to rescue those apartment dwellers.

"We had to remove four people from up there," he says. "We were able to get ’em out of the building safely."

Fire crews fought the blaze for about three hours before knocking it out. No word yet on the cause of the fire.

The water system in Le Mars has been pumping at 90 percent of capacity for the past few days, but Chief Schipper says they had no problems getting enough water to fight the fire.
