Death reported at St. Ansgar plant

July 23, 2007 By admin

The Iowa Occupational Health and Safety Division is investigating the death of an employee at the Grain Millers Incorporated processing plant in St. Ansgar. OSHA administrator Mary Bryant says the death of a female was reported to her agency last Thursday.

The company has issued a press release saying that 54-year-old Melanie Ann Haverhals was found non-responsive by co-workers at about 8 o’clock Thursday night, with emergency personnel immediately being summoned to the plant. Bryant says initial information provided to her by the company says Haverhals was found at the bottom of a belt lift, which transports people to different levels of the plant.

Bryant adds that the woman might have fallen nearly eight stories, but the agency’s investigation has not been completed.
