Iowa deer hunters may begin purchasing their licenses for the upcoming season on August 15th. Willie Suchy of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources says there are a number of different hunting seasons in the state and licenses will be available for all of them.

Suchy says in past years many hunters purchase their license as soon as possible while others will wait until the season approaches. He says in some counties with low antlerless quotas, there’s a rush in the beginning, and then things slow down. Suchy says when the seasons get close there’s usually a last minute rush.

Suchy says probably 90% of people wait until the last minute to purchase a license. He says you might want to purchase you license a little earlier to avoid any last minute problems. Suchy says there are a couple of different ways to purchase a license, with the easiest through your local vendor. You can purchase a license on-line, but there is an extra handling charge.
