Authorities have released the name of the pilot who survived Sunday afternoon’s cropdusting plane crash in a Benton County soybean field. 53-year-old David Norton of Arkansas reportedly crashed after the plane clipped a power line.

Steve Shollengarger owns the field between Vinton and Newhall where Norton crashed and was first on the scene. Shollengarger says he heard the "boom" and then his power went out, so he immediately knew there’d been a crash.

Shollengarger says, "I came running out and I could see the ball of flames, ran through the field. He was out of the plane and he grabbed a hold of me and we got up to the house so he could get rinsed off. We didn’t have much water left because we didn’t have power. He seemed okay, was coherent, had a few burns, but I think he’ll make it."

Norton is being treated at University Hospitals in Iowa City for burns — both from the chemicals and the fire. No condition report was released but it was said his injuries are not considered life-threatening.
