Hurricane could cause trouble with your travel

August 21, 2007 By admin

Damage is being assessed in Mexico after the Yucatan peninsula was hit earlier today by Hurricane Dean with winds gusting up to 200-miles an hour. Iowans who have late summer vacation plans to Cancun or Belize may find themselves in a difficult spot, according to Triple-A-Iowa spokeswoman Rose White.

White says, "It’s important to contact your travel agent or your air carrier to find out what your options are. In many of these cases, you can re-book. They’ll sometimes waive rebooking fees, so the carriers are certainly working with people in this situation that’s developed."

Reports indicate the hurricane’s worst winds hit mostly unpopulated areas and skirted the major tourist resorts. Still, White says Iowans should check on their flight and their resort before heading for the airport.
