Expectations are now a part of the football program at William Penn. The Statesmen slipped to 5-6 a year ago after posting their first winning season in nearly two decades in 2005. However, back-to-back winning records in conference play has given the program a shot of confidence.

Coach Todd Hafner says the attitude of the team has change from the first year, and they now fully expect to go and win each and every week. He says that was not the case when he first took over prior to the 2004 season. Now he says the prepare a game plan knowing the kids are going to do the best they can to execute it.

Fifteen starters return from last year’s team giving the Statesmen an experienced nucleus. Hafner says some of the players are still young, including four sophomores on defense. Penn gets an early start to the season with a matchup against Waldorf on Saturday.
