Hormel buys Nevada food company

August 23, 2007 By admin

Hormel Foods Corporation of Austin, Minnesota has bought an Iowa company that makes pizza toppings. Hormel announced it has purchased the privately-owned Burke Corporation, which has a main facility in Nevada and another in Ames.

A news release on the sale from Hormel says they’re buying Burke for approximately 110-million dollars, and anticipate it will produce annual net sales of 125-million dollars. The company employs around 350 people. Burke makes pizza-toppings and other cooked meat products primarily for restaurants, foodservice establishments and the makers of frozen foods.

The release says the acquisition will allow Hormel to expand its position in the pizza-topping industry. Burke Corporation was established in 1974 by William J. Burke, Senior and Hormel says the company will continue to be run by Bill Burke Junior.
