A large crowd was on hand Wednesday for the grand opening of King’s Pointe Waterpark Resort in Storm Lake. The 30-million dollar project was made possible in part by nine-million dollars in Vision Iowa money. Vision Iowa board chair Andy Anderson talked about seeing the project come to fruition.

Anderson says he feels a little like the head of the Olympic committee declaring the project open. He says the project will change the face of the community and its economy. Storm Lake mayor Jon Kruse said the project began five years ago with an enthusiasm to better use the lake and an opportunity for Storm Lake’s biggest economic development project.

"Welcome to probably one of the most important days in the future of our community," Kruse says. He says it’s hard to believe they’re finally celebrating the completion of the project. Project manger Mike Wilson saluted the people of Storm Lake and Buena Vista County for making it happen.

Wilson says they grasped the vision of the project and donated their time and money to make it happen. The outdoor waterpark has been open since June. The restaurant opened for business Wednesday night, and the hotel’s 100 rooms are fully booked for this weekend. The project also includes an indoor waterpark, expected to open soon.
