Hull man dies in potato gun explosion

September 1, 2007 By admin

A Hull man is dead after an explosion last night outside a home in Hull. Deputy State Fire Marshal Dave Schipper of Spencer says a potato gun was filled with an explosive powder.

The device ruptured when it was ignited and injured 21-year-old Ryan Meerdinck of Hull. Meerdinck later died at the Sioux Center Hospital. An investigation by the Fire Marshal’s office, the Sioux County Sheriff’s Department and Hull Fire Department determined the explosion was an accident.
