Clinton: Vilsack "wrong" to ridicule Giuliani’s mariages

September 24, 2007 By admin

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton now says one of her big backers was wrong to ridicule Republican Rudy Giuliani’s multiple marriages.

Last week, former Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack went on a New York television station to tout Hillary Clinton’s candidacy. When the interviewer mentioned Giuliani, Vilsack laughed and then said most Americans don’t know about the bitter divorce Giuliani went through just before 9/11 when he was New York City’s mayor.

Vilsack did not respond to Radio Iowa’s request for an interview on the subject. A few hours later, Clinton was asked whether Vilsack’s comments were appropriate. Her brief reply was that Vilsack could speak for himself.

But on Sunday during an appearance on "This Week" with George Stephanopoulos on ABC TV, Clinton said Vilsack’s statements were "wrong" and said she’s not "running a campaign that goes down that road."

In other campaign news today, former Iowa Democratic Party chairman Gordon Fischer has endorsed Barack Obama.
