The Iowa Utilities Board has extended its deadline for groups to join the 2007 Weatherization Challenge to the end of this month (October 31). Utilities Board spokesman, Rob Hillesland, says groups can receive a $500 matching grant for their projects.

He says it’s a good way for Iowans to assist their neighbors in weatherizing their homes and helps cut energy use. Hillesland says groups can help the elderly, low income, and other groups targeted for the assistance. Hillesland says projects include caulking and weatherstripping of homes and can really add up to some savings in heating bills.

Hillesland says time is growing short to get the projects done before cold weather arrives, so groups should contact the I-U-B as soon as possible. You can call 1-877-565-4451 for more information, or go to the Iowa Utilities Board website for more information.
