After the first version was defeated six months ago, voters in Mount Ayr passed a school bond issue this week. Unofficial vote totals show the 6.7 million dollar bond issue passed with 64% approval. With a total of 1,375 votes cast, 878 voted in favor of the plan while 497 voted against it.

The plan calls for 31,000 square feet of new construction at the new elementary facility, 3,000 square feet of renovation, a new multi-purpose room to accommodate PE, music, and performances, a new lunch room, new classrooms for 5th and 6th grade, plus removal of the 1936 building. The secondary building will get 15-thousand square feet of new construction and a middle school gymnasium.
