Obama talks about Social Security in stop in Cedar Rapids

October 29, 2007 By admin

Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama says Social Security won’t be protected until Washington politicians quit treating it like a "political football." Obama says he supports lifting the cap on the amount government can collect on the payroll tax so wealthier earners can pay more into social security.

"The best option in my view is to ask the highest income Americans to contribute a little bit more by raising the ceiling that’s currently put on the amount of earnings subject to the social security tax," Obama said Monday in Cedar Rapids.

Obama’s forum with students at Coe College was streamed live on the web and will air at 6 P.M. tonight on MTV.
