Two teens die in accident near Mapleton

October 29, 2007 By admin

Two western Iowa teens died and an adult male was injured early Saturday morning during a single-vehicle accident near Mapleton. The victims were identified as 19-year-old Michael Babcock of Odebolt and 15-year-old Bradley Kline, Junior, of Schleswig.

The Iowa State Patrol says 21-year-old Scott Mau of Odebolt was injured during the crash that occurred sometime after one o’clock Saturday morning on Highway 175, one-quarter of a mile south of Mapleton. Troopers say a 2001 Chevrolet pickup driven by Michael Babcock went out of control as it was crossing a bridge and left the road.

Babcock and Kline were ejected and trapped beneath the truck underneath the bridge. Officials say Scott Mau was found outside the pickup when the accident was discovered nearly 12-hours later. He was taken by helicopter to a local hospital. The accident remains under investigation.
