New Iowa coach premieres against Simpson

November 1, 2007 By admin

Todd Lickliter makes his first appearance on the Iowa bench, tonight, when the Hawkeyes host Simpson College in an exhibition game. Lickliter takes over a team that is short on experience and lost more than half of its scoring from last season.

Lickliter says after working hard in practice the Hawks need a game-like situation. He says it’s enjoyable to try and create an identity and install a system, but it’s also nice to have to prepare for an opponent and see how you stack up against them.

Lickliter says much of the time in practice has been spent working on defense. He says they need to get beyond the point where everyone is in position, to where they are active in position and anticipating and reading and responding to what’s happening.
