Speaking on the University of Iowa campus Monday, Senator John Edwards stepped up attacks on one his rivals for the Democratic presidential nomination: Senator Hillary Clinton.

"With less than 60 days to go before the caucus, Senator Clinton has not given specific answers to specific questions," Edwards said.  "How many troops will she withdrawl? And when will she withdrawl them? All that she’s said is she’ll meet with generals within two months of taking office. That’s not a plan…that’s not even a real promise. It’s the promise of a planning meeting."

Edwards also renewed his criticism of Clinton for supporting the Bush administration’s sanctions of Iran. "It’s clear that Senator Clinton and I learned very different lessons from the run up to Iraq War," Edwards said.  "I learned that if you give this President an inch, he’ll take a mile and launch a war. But, Senator Clinton apparently learned a different lesson and she’s giving the administration exactly what they want again."

Edwards accused Clinton of voting like a hawk in Washington, but talking like a dove on the campaign trail in Iowa.  Clinton campaign officials accuse Edwards of using attacks on their candidate to try to raise a "flagging" campaign.
