Iowa overcomes slow start and wins at Northwestern

November 5, 2007 By admin

The Iowa Hawkeyes survived another lackluster start, this one at Northwestern, as they rallied for a 28-17 win. The Hawks fell behind 14-0 at the outset and trailed 14-7 at the half. They turned things around in the third quarter after an animated talk from coach Kirk Ferentz at the break. He says the comments were more pointed, as he says one team was competing hard and his team wasn’t and he says that’s puzzling.

Ferentz says they didn’t show up to play and that was his fault, but they played like a football team in the second half. Iowa returns home to close out Big Ten play against Minnesota and Ferentz hopes they play better in the first half that they did on Saturday.

Ferentz says they weren’t doing the fundamentals very well in the first half, not tackling well. And he says the offense wasn’t making first downs that it should have been making. Iowa is 5-5 overall.
