Mason City Iowa Guard unit will be deployed again

November 5, 2007 By admin

Members of a north-central Iowa-based Iowa National Guard unit are being told they could be deployed again next year. The Mason City-based 1133rd Transportation Company has been informed by the Department of Defense that they could be headed overseas against in late 2008.

The department started contacting soldiers on Saturday, and Iowa National Guard spokesman Lt. Col. Gregory Hapgood officially confirmed that information Sunday. Hapgood says the Department of Defense regularly updates its information and as a result advised the unit of the possible deployment.

The 1133rd was deployed to Iraq for a year, leaving Mason City in February of 2003 and returning in April of 2004.
