A bond issue worth more than seven-million dollars has passed in Mason City to help renovate the public library. Sixty-percent of Mason City voters needed to give their approval to pass the bond issue, and they barely did just that, with 60.8% saying yes on Tuesday.

The extra money will be used to help bring the seven-decade- old library building up to code, improving such things as electrical wiring, replace inefficient heating and cooling units, update restrooms and an elevator to make them handicap accessible, and install a fire sprinkler system. Private funds will also be raised to construct an atrium to connect the library with a large community room and provide a second entrance to the building.
