A rural Winterset man who was reported missing by his wife has been found alive, but critically hurt, in his crashed car. Dwight Eckstein had not made it to work in Des Moines Monday morning. His wife contacted the Madison County Sheriff’s Department to inform them that her husband had also been sick.

Eckstein was located by a deputy approximately four miles from his home where he apparently lost control of his vehicle, had driven through a pasture and wrecked his vehicle in a wooded ravine approximately a half-mile off the roadway.

Eckstein was flown to Iowa Methodist Medical Hospital in Des Moines via LifeFlight where he is being treated for several injuries and his condition is not available at this time.
