A vote to merge the Winfield-Mt. Union and Morning Sun school districts was defeated Tuesday. The issue passed 320-214 in the Winfield-Mt. Union district, but failed on a 225-148 vote in Morning Sun. Winfield-Mt. Union superintendent Lynn Ubben says the results show Morning Sun is "not quite ready to merge their school."

Ubben says they will now look to a different course. Ubben says the vote does provide essential information for both districts as they plan for the future, and she says both districts will have to get together and see what the future holds. The measure required a simple majority to pass.
