A school bond issue has been rejected by voters in north-central Iowa. Voters in the Northeast Hamilton Community School District of Hamilton County went to the polls on Tuesday to decide on a two point two million dollar bond issue to build, furnish and equip a pre-kindergarten through fifth grade addition to the existing school building in Blairsburg and to improve the school building site.

In the end the measure went down to defeat. The issue needed 60 percent of the vote to pass however it ended up with 58 percent in favor and 42 percent voting no. 279 voted yes to the bond issue while 203 voted no at the polling stations in Blairsburg, Kamrar and Williams.

Northeast Hamilton School Superintendent Andy Whywood said the board will go back to the drawing board,look at further options and perhaps another election for an elementary addition in the near future.
