A 14 year old boy and his father are in custody after the child allegedly threatened students and staff at a Cedar Rapids school. Cedar Rapids Police say they were notified at 8 o’clock Tuesday night about a potential incident at Taft Middle School.

At 1:15 this morning, police executed a search warrant at a residence in Palo. Officers seized a number of items from the home, including an AR-15 rifle, a Ruger 9 millimeter handgun, and ammunition. Police have charged 14 year old Nicholas Cote with first degree harassment and 40 year old Edmond Cote with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

The boy was transported to the Linn County Detention Facility, while his father was taken to the Linn County Jail. Parents of students at Taft Middle School were notified of the incident this morning.
