The latest Manpower Employment Outlook Survey being released today shows positive news for Iowa overall. Manpower spokesman Mike Lynch says employers will be looking to hire more workers. Overall, 10% of the state businesses says they plan to do more hiring.
Lynch says those who plan to hire are across the board, from durable and non-durable goods manufacturing, transportation and public utilities, wholesale and retail, as well as finance, insurance and real estate. Lynch says this report is an upward trend for business.
Lynch says the upcoming results are more positive than the fourth quarter, and a better than at this time last year, so "one might be able to construe that things are looking up a little bit." Lynch didn’t find any big weaknesses in the report.
Lynch says construction and public administration were the industries that said they would cut back, which he says is "no big surprise." Des Moines and Muscatine reported 33 and 30% respectively plan to hire more workers. Sioux City and Ottumwa had the worst outlook, projecting a 37% decrease and Ottumwa a 20% decrease.
