Pressure defense has been a staple for the Simpson College women’s basketball team and this season is no different. The Storm are 7-1 and force more than 19 turnovers per game with their pressure while also blocking more than six shots per contest.

Simpson coach Brian Niemuth says they have a good combination of players with some good quickness at the front of their press. Points against can be misleading when judging how well a team plays defense and Simpson is an example of that.

The Storm yield 70 points per game but opponents are shooting just 35 percent from the floor and just 28 percent from three point range. Niemuth says they don’t hold the ball a long time on offense, which lets other teams get more opportunities.

Niemuth says many times the play on defense is overlooked. He says because they score a lot of points, people think they’re offensive minded, but he says they score a lot of points on defense. Simpson returns to action at home on Saturday against St. Thomas of Minnesota.
