Omaha Von Maur store to reopen Thursday

December 18, 2007 By admin

The site of a deadly shooting this month in Omaha will be reopening this week. Von Maur spokesperson Eileen Boyce say the Von Maur Store at the Westroads Mall will reopen on Thursday. She says they are planning a brief ceremony just prior to opening the doors for business at 10 a.m.

"We’ll be holding a very brief ceremony for employees certainly as they are welcomed back to work at the store," Boyce says, "it will be more of an observance ceremony." Eight people were killed in the December 5 shooting before the gunman killed himself.

Boyce says the company is amazed at the support they’ve received from the community. Boyce calls the outpouring of support from Omaha "incredible." A Council Bluffs resident, who was nearly killed in the shooting spree, continues to improve.

Sixty-one-year-old Fred Wilson, who was shot in the arm, has been upgraded to good condition. When he was taken to the hospital, Wilson had no noticeable pulse and lost a massive amount of blood. Wilson says he was laying on his arm, which applied pressure and that likely saved his life.
