Drake basketball coach Keno Davis hopes a lengthy layoff does not hurt the momentum his team has built. The Bulldogs are 9-1 which equals their best start in school history. They are in the midst of a 15-day layoff and don’t return to action until December 29th when they open the Missouri Valley Conference race at Wichita State.

Davis says it’s a tough setup as they have finals at the end of the week and they had the choice to play at the end of finals or have a long layoff. Last year they scheduled a tournament right after finals and flew down Thursday to play Friday and Saturday.

Davis says last year the Bulldogs played in a tournament in El Paso right after final exams and were tired when the Valley race started. he says if you’re not fresh at the start of conference play, you get behind early. Davis says they’ve chosen to come in with fresh legs this year.
