Drake University welcomed a new football coach over the weekend. Chris Creighton becomes the schools 25th head football coach after a successful run at Wabash College in Indiana, which included a trip to the quarterfinal round of the division three national playoffs this past season.

Creighton says he’s just concluded seven years at a special place and never intended leaving until Drake contacted him. Creighton says his first job is to provide stability. Creighton will be the Bulldogs’ third coach in as many seasons.

Longtime coach Rob Ash resigned last summer to take the job at Montana State and Steve Loney led Drake to a 6-5 record on an interim basis. Creighton says he has a vision for what he believes a football program can and should be. He says his vision is to make playing football at Drake, “one of the most incredible experiences of a person’s life.”
