Iowa basketball coach Todd Lickliter says a lengthy layoff has allowed two Hawkeyes to heal. Junior guard Tony Freeman has missed all but two games after breaking a foot in an exhibition game and freshman guard Jeff Peterson has been bothered by a sore thumb on his shooting hand.

The Hawks end a 15 day layoff on Saturday when they host Southeastern Louisiana. Lickliter says they are not 100%, but are more comfortable and getting better every day. Lickliter says Freeman will still likely have some pain to work through, and Peterson has had some time where his thumb hasn’t been hit and has had a chance to heal.

Lickliter says the layoff has allowed the Hawkeyes to focus on their weaknesses. He says they’re trying to continue to grow and eliminate some of the things they thought were keeping them from being successful. Lickliter says they’ve been working to get the players to play more to the strength of the team.

The Hawkeyes are 6-6.
