The Grinnell College men’s basketball team enters 2008 with a 7-1 record. The run-and-gun Pioneers are averaging 115 points per game, third most among NCAA Division III teams. The 151 points scored in the December game against North Central is the most scored in a Division III game thus far.

Grinnell will be without the services of 6’8" senior Keith Chamberlain due to a broken foot. Grinnell College men’s basketball coach Dave Arnsenault says every day they have off is a bonus and if he was going to get injured, it was a good time as there’s time to get Chamberlin healthy.

Chamberlain was averaging over 16 points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots per game. He broke a bone in his foot during a December practice and will be out during the early going in 2008. The Pioneers will play two games in California on Saturday and Sunday.

The Pioneers will play Cal Tech in Pasadena Saturday and The University of Redlands Sunday. Arsenault’s current assistant Gary Smith just retired after 37 years at University of the Redlands in California, running Arsenault’s system prior to stepping down. Chamberlin says this trip will be a highlight for many of the guys.
