Omaha man dies in Council Bluffs crash

January 7, 2008 By admin

An Omaha man died during a fiery crash Saturday morning in Council Bluffs. According to Council Bluffs Police, a garbage truck driven by 45-year-old Jose J. Tirado, of Omaha, was traveling west on Nebraska Avenue approaching Interstate 29, when a 1978 VW Beetle driven by 56-year-old Carl Gibson, of Omaha, made a left turn in front of the truck.

Tirado was unable to stop in time and slid into the car at the intersection with the I-29 Northbound entrance ramp. The collision caused the beetle to erupt into flames, resulting in Gibson’s death. No other injuries were reported. Witnesses say the light was green when the accident occurred at around 7:30 A.M. Saturday.
