The Iowa State Patrol says one man died in a multi-vehicle crash in the dense fog in northeast Iowa Monday.  The accident happened on Highway 20 near Epworth, with about one dozen vehicles involved in the chain-reaction accident.

One of the vehicles, a pickup driven by 42-year-old Scott Nelson of Guttenberg, slammed into the back of a jackknifed semi. Nelson died from injuries he suffered in the crash.

Another accident on Highway 20 in northeast Iowa involved a Waterloo police officer. It happen Monday evening on an off ramp to the highway in Waterloo. Officer Tim Everett was standing outside his patrol car investigating another accident, when a vehicle struck his patrol car, tossing him into the ditch.

Officer Everett was taken to a local hospital with what appeared to be non-lifethreatening injuries. The other driver, 21-year-old Elvis Alicci of Waterloo, was reportedly driving too fast for conditions, but was not injured.
