Former Fort Dodge mayor dies

January 18, 2008 By admin

Fort Dodge is remembering William "Will" Patterson. The former Mayor and City Council member died of an apparent heart attack while shoveling snow at his residence yesterday afternoon. He was 72. Patterson began his service on the Fort Dodge City Council from 1981 to 1985, 1996 to 1997 and once again from 1999 to 2001. In 1993 Patterson served as Mayor of Fort Dodge to complete the term of Mike McCarville and held the office again from 2002 to 2005.

Last year Patterson lost in a landslide election for the third ward council seat in Fort Dodge to incumbent Cindy Litwiller. Patterson also served on the Fort Dodge School Board from 1990 to 1993. Since 2006, Patterson served on the Fort Museum Board of Directors. Funeral Services for Will Patterson are pending and will be announced later by a Fort Dodge funeral home.
