Drake men in top 25 for first time since 1975

January 21, 2008 By admin

For the first time since 1975 the Drake Bulldogs are in the Associated Press college basketball poll. The Bulldogs are 22nd after improving to 16-1 with a 79-73 win over Illinois State. Drake coach Keno Davis says the goals for the players go beyond the top-25.

Davis says finishing strong in the conference would mean a lot more than one week in the polls. The team was picked 9th in the preseason poll.

Drake is 7-0 in the Valley and Davis says the Bulldogs know that things will get tougher. Davis says he’s not expecting them to end up as 29-1 or anything "crazy" like that. He says they want to keep improving to be playing their best by the time they get to the conference tournament.

The Bulldogs have a difficult test on Tuesday night when they visit Creighton.
