New snow causes problems in Northeast Iowa

January 21, 2008 By admin

A snow advisory is in affect for most of Iowa’s northern half through this afternoon. Slick roads and blowing snow are caused travel problems in northeast Iowa this morning. Several law enforcement agencies in Black Hawk County were busy responding to numerous traffic accidents around the Waterloo area.

A series of minor accidents along a three-mile stretch of Interstate 380 in Evansdale forced the Iowa State Patrol to close the highway for about 30 minutes this morning. No serious injuries were reported. The Iowa Department of Transportation is advising against no travel in Black Hawk County today. The city of Waterloo declared a snow emergency for snow removal purposes at 9 A.M.

Most schools in Northeast Iowa were closed today because of the Martin Luther King Junior holiday. Many of those that are holding classes are dismissing early, because of the weather. The National Weather Service expects 3 to 5 inches of snow to fall before the system moves out of the area tonight. A snow advisory is in effect for all of northeast Iowa until 6 p.m.
