The city of Dubuque will host the biggest weekend of the Iowa Winter Games beginning tomorrow and executive director Jim Hallihan expects a record number of participants. Ten sports, ranging from youth basketball to volleyball, will be contested during the weekend.

Hallihan says signups have gone better than last year, and they added volleyball and have over 40 teams int he first year. He says indoor soccer signups looked like they were going to be down, but ended high than last year. Hallihan believes they could set a new record for participation.

Dubuque will host the majority of the events but Hallihan says adding more venues and spreading the competition out over four weekends has helped enable more Iowans to take part. Opening ceremonies will be Friday night at the Five Flags Center.
