Winnebago set to layoff some employees

January 24, 2008 By admin

Layoffs are coming up for some employees at Winnebago Industries. The Forest City-based motor home manufacturer confirms that current market conditions will force them to lay off an undetermined amount of employees in the near future.

Winnebago spokeswoman Sheila Davis says the company is still evaluating the current labor requirements and future forecasted needs. Davis says economic pressures such as increased interest rates, rising fuel prices and declining consumer confidence are causing industry-wide softness in the wholesale and retail markets for motor homes.

Also, wintertime is typically Winnebago’s slowest period of the year. Winnebago is north-central Iowa’s largest employer, with a total of 3,300 in the workforce in their Forest City, Charles City, and Hampton plants.
