Drake looks to keep win streak alive against UNI

January 25, 2008 By admin

The Drake Bulldogs will be looking for their 17th straight win when they host UNI, tomorrow afternoon, in the Knapp Center. Drake is 17-1 overall and 8-0 in the Missouri Valley race and coach Keno Davis says experience is a major factor.

Drake coach Keno Davis says the recent history of the teams that have been successful in the conference have senior leadership at the top. Davis says the leadership begins at the point guard spot with Adam Emmenecker. Davis says he has faith in Emmenecker when other teams go on runs to settle the team down and keep them on pace to what they need to do. Davis says teams make big runs every night and get the crowd going, and having a player who calms things down allows him to save his time outs.

UNI coach Ben Jacobsen says he is not surprised that Keno Davis adapted to his new role as head coach so quickly, as Davis has been around it a long time. And Jacobsen says while Keno has worked under his father, he has also worked under a lot of other great coaches.

Jacobsen says the Bulldogs are playing with a lot of confidence. He says a lot of people are surprised after Drake was picked for the bottom of the conference at media day, but Jacobsen says they have a lot of experience and have really played well.

UNI is 4-4 in the Valley and 12-7 overall.
