Drake wins 18th straight gets an assist in MVC with win by UNI

January 31, 2008 By admin

The Drake Bulldogs scored the final ten points of the game and beat Creighton 75-65 in Des Moines last night for their 18th consecutive victory. Sophomore guard Josh Young tied a career-high with 24 points as the Bulldogs improved to 10-0 in the Missouri Valley Conference.

Drake coach Keno Davis on his post game show on KRNT says he is running out of things to say about his team as they keep finding a way to win. Davis says they are playing extremely hard and there are no easy victories in the conference.

Bucky Cox scored 16 points and added ten rebounds for the 16th ranked Bulldogs who are now 19-1 on the season. Davis says the game could have gone either way, and he says they’ll come back to the practice court and get going again. He says they want to enjoy what they accomplished, but still want to keep their eyes on what they want to get done by March.

Klayton Korver became the 20th Drake player to surpass the one thousand point mark. He finished with seven points as the Bulldogs took control of another game in the waning moments. Korver says when you win close games it propels you forward as “success breeds success.’

Drake now leads the Missouri Valley Conference race by three games after UNI got by Illinois State 69-61 in Cedar Falls. The Panthers got a steal from Adam Viet with under 30 seconds to go on what looked like a breakaway layup, and turned it into a basket on the other end that helped UNI win the game.

UNI made 11 of 11 free throws down the stretch to preserve the win. Jordan Eglseder led UNI with 15 points. UNI is now 13-8 overall and the win moved them to 5-5 in the MVC.
